IGT closes Poker operations in Europe

Last week, IGT, which is the largest makers of slot machine in the world, shut down the online poker operation of the firm in Europe. The company has blamed the regulatory changes, which vary with different countries in the continent, are to be blamed for killing the business model that they penned for Europe.

CEO of the online casino giant, Patti Hart, said that IGT was to halt online poker in Europe because some of the nations there had barred their residents from playing alongside customers from other parts of the world. She said that this move made them shift from (.com) to (.{country name}). This has not only led to the reduction in profitability, but it has also made sure that their products became less interesting.

The worrying fact was that all this came after the Nevada-based firm recently paid USD 115 million for taking over Entraction Holding, which was an online poker provider based in Sweden.

With company still keeping its operations for providing sports betting, video slots and online bingo throughout Europe, things could still not be that bad for customers registered to online casino sites operating under IGT platforms.

Hart connected the ongoing situation in Europe to US and said that the casino firms will have to decide by themselves that if they wish to go by the operations in a state-by-state basis and without any approval from the federal front. They should study and find out that if the US legal situation is going to work for them or not and offer the profits, which their model might be hoping to have.
